Location

History

Saginomiya Station opened on 16 April 1927 on what is now the Seibu Shinjuku Line in Nakano Ward, Tokyo — the westernmost stop in the ward. On 6 October 1965 a dedicated turn-back centre track was extended toward Hon-Kawagoe and the layout was reshaped into two platforms serving three tracks. A bridge-style station building was completed on 1 November 1979 and a north-side station building opened on 11 May 1991. Automatic ticket gates began service on 4 November 1992, and the up main and down passing tracks were swapped on 7 February 2013. Station numbering assigned SS09 in fiscal 2012.

Notes

On 14 and 15 March 2011, in response to TEPCO rolling blackouts ordered after the Tōhoku earthquake, a shuttle service was run between Seibu-Shinjuku and platform 2 at Saginomiya — unusual, because current timetables set no turn-back services at the station, scheduled or otherwise.
