History
Sagarahanganjōji Station opened as "Higashi-Hitoyoshi Station" on the Ministry of Railways' Yunomae Line on 1 April 1937. It was inherited by Japanese National Railways in 1949, and freight handling ended in 1959. It was placed under contracted operation in 1963, and became a JR Kyushu station at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. It was renamed "Sagarahanganjōji Station" at the same time as the conversion to the Kuma River Railway on 1 October 1989. The station building was rebuilt in April 1997 and a Hitoyoshi City children's library was added, but that library closed in March 2013. It is a staffed station with one side platform serving one track, and its station number is 2.
Notes
The station's name comes from Ganjōji, the family temple of the Sagara clan, lords of Hitoyoshi Domain, located about 300 meters to the south.
