History

Sabane Station serves the Sanriku Railway Rias Line in Miyako, Iwate Prefecture, 101.1 rail kilometres from the line's terminus at Sakari. It opened on 27 February 1972 as a station on the Japanese National Railways Kuji Line, and on 1 April 1984 the line was privatised and handed to the Sanriku Railway Company. The 11 March 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami swept away part of the tracks and one of the line's station buildings, suspending services on part of the Sanriku Railway; the Miyako–Tarō section, which includes Sabane, resumed operation on 20 March 2011. On 23 March 2019 the unification of the Minami-Rias, JR Yamada coastal, and Kita-Rias lines into the Rias Line made the stop an intermediate station of that route. The platform has only a rain shelter, no station building.
