History
Rokkō Cable Shita Station opened as Hashira Station, on the mountain-foot side of the Rokkō Cable Line in Nada Ward, Kobe City, on 10 March 1932, operated by Rokkō-goe Arima Railway. It collapsed, along with Shimizu Station, in the great Hanshin flood disaster of July 1938, but was provisionally restored the following month; it was suspended in February 1944 as a non-essential, non-urgent line, and service resumed on 25 August 1945. It was renamed to its present name, Rokkō Cable Shita, on 1 February 1973, became a station of Rokkō Maya Railway through a merger on 29 October 1975, of Rokkosan Kankō through a further merger in October 2013, and of Kobe Rokkō Railway through a company-name change on 1 April 2024. Service was also temporarily suspended by the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and by Typhoon No. 18 in September 2013.
Notes
The current station building is a mountain-lodge-style structure rebuilt after damage in the 1938 great Hanshin flood disaster; at the time of opening, its design closely resembled that of Rokkō-Sanjō Station at the mountaintop end of the line.
