History
Ritsurin-kōen Station opened on 21 December 1926 as a station of the Kotohira Electric Railway. It became a station of the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad's Kotohira Line through a company merger on 1 November 1943. In 1967 the original station building was rebuilt for the construction of the Kotoden Super store, and the current station building was completed on 2 July 2004. In January 2009, barrier-free renovation work was carried out on the platform ramp, and the illuminated station-name signs were replaced with a new design. The section between this station and Sanjō was double-tracked on 20 March 2026. It is an at-grade station with two side platforms and two tracks, station number K03, and has both an IruCa service counter and an IruCa commuter-pass counter.
Notes
The station building at the time of opening was designed by then-president Toranosuke Ōnishi himself, based on the Nankai Railway's Hagoromo Station.
