History
Rikuzen-Inai Station is a station on the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) Ishinomaki Line at Inai-Takinokuchi, Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. It opened on 7 October 1939 as a station on the Ministry of Railways Ishinomaki Line in what was then Inai Village, Oshika District. Freight and parcel handling ended on 30 November 1971, at which point it became unstaffed, and it passed to JR East at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987. The entire line was suspended by the Great East Japan Earthquake of 11 March 2011, and service resumed with the restoration of the section between Ishinomaki and Watanoha on 17 March 2012. Since 6 August 2016 some Senseki-Tōhoku Line trains have also stopped there. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, an unstaffed station managed by the Kogota General Center.
Notes
Although the station is named "Inai," the actual local place-name at this location — written with different characters but read the same way — is also "Inai," and it is the older of the two names. Inai Village (in the station's spelling) was formed in 1889 through the merger of eight villages, and the old-written Inai is known as the source of "Inai stone," used for stone monuments and similar purposes.
