History

Rengeji Station is a station on the Sangi Railway Hokusei Line in Ōaza Rengeji, Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, with station number H04. It opened on 5 April 1914 as a station of the Hokusei Railway; a company name change on 27 June 1934 made it a station of the Hokusei Electric Railway, and it passed through Mie Kōtsū in 1944 and Mie Electric Railway in 1964 before becoming a station of Kintetsu (Kinki Nippon Railway) in the merger of 1 April 1965. On 6 April 1977 the platform was extended 3.0 m toward Ageki (effective length 53.0 m). Operations were transferred to Sangi Railway in the business transfer of 1 April 2003, and on 30 October 2007 automatic ticket vending machines, fare adjustment machines, and automatic ticket gates were installed in the station building, beginning remote-controlled operation from Tōin Station. On 1 December 2008 the station was relocated about 130 m toward Ageki from its former site; a new station building, station plaza, free bicycle parking, and free car park were built, and the automatic ticket gates were expanded to two lanes.

Notes

It is the only station on the Hokusei Line equipped with a train-approach indicator light, and its platform is built from a combination of large U-shaped blocks and concrete panels, with a refuge space beneath the platform.
