History

Sekijūji-byōin-mae Station is a stop on the Iyotetsu Jōhoku Line in Heiwadōri 1-chōme, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with stop number 14. It is used by city tram (Matsuyama City Line) routes 1 and 2. It opened on 3 April 1927 as Renpeijō-mae Station. In 1944 it was renamed Gokoku-jinja-mae Station, but was abolished on 6 March that year as the war situation worsened. After the war, it reopened on 1 August 1947 as Sekijūji-byōin-mae Station. In September 1956, a platform dedicated to Komachi-bound trains was installed east of the level crossing on the north side of the track (until then, only a single bidirectional platform existed west of the crossing on the south side of the track). Around 1978, the platform position was changed again.

Notes

Sekijūji-byōin-mae Station was abolished in 1944 as the wartime situation worsened, and reopened after the war on 1 August 1947, dropping its earlier names Renpeijō and Gokoku-jinja in favor of a name taken from the Matsuyama Red Cross Hospital. Similarly named stations also exist on the Hiroshima Electric Railway's Ujina Line (Nisseki-byōin-mae) and the Fukui Railway's Fukubu Line (Sekijūji-mae).
