History
Rebun Station opened on 10 September 1928 as a general station, with the opening of the Railway Ministry's Osawa Line between Shizukari and Date-Monbetsu stations. On 1 April 1931 the Osawa Line was absorbed into the Muroran Main Line, and the station became part of that line. Freight handling ended on 1 May 1980, parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984, and the station became unstaffed with a switch to simplified consignment on 1 November 1986. JR Hokkaido took over the station at the 1 April 1987 privatization and division of Japanese National Railways. The station building was rebuilt in December 1989 into a house-like structure with siding cladding and a bay window. In June 2023 it was named among 42 candidate stations for closure that JR Hokkaido identified because of very low ridership.
Notes
When Reuke Station on the Rumoi Main Line closed in 2016, Rebun became the only JR station in Japan with a name starting with the kana 're'.
