History
Owari Seto Station opened on 2 April 1905 as Seto Station, the terminus at the Seto end of the Seto Electric Railway. From its earliest years the station handled outbound shipments of locally produced Seto ware as well as passengers. It was renamed to its present name on 19 February 1921, and the Seto Electric Railway was absorbed into the Meitetsu group on 1 September 1939. Freight handling ended on 15 February 1978 in connection with the works for through service to Sakaemachi, and the disused freight siding was rebuilt as a stabling yard. A third-generation station building, shaped to evoke a Seto-ware climbing kiln, opened on 14 April 2001 slightly east of the previous site as part of a redevelopment that also produced the Parti Seto civic complex, to which the station building is connected. The Manaca IC ticket entered service on 11 February 2011.
Notes
The 2001 station building is shaped to evoke a noborigama climbing kiln, a nod to Seto ware; the previous (Taishō-era) station building has been partially reconstructed inside the Seto-gura museum that opened in 2005.
