Location

History

Ōwada Station serves the Tobu Urban Park Line in Minuma-ku, Saitama City, and is operated by Tobu Railway. It opened on 17 November 1929, when the Hokusō Railway's Noda Line section between Kasukabe and a temporary Ōmiya station opened; Hokusō was renamed Sōbu Railway 5 days later. Tobu Railway absorbed Sōbu Railway on 1 March 1944 under wartime transport-consolidation law, bringing the station onto its own network. The station is a ground-level facility with 2 opposed side platforms serving 2 tracks, linked by a footbridge, and was assigned the code TD-04 when Tobu introduced station numbering in March 2012. Today only local trains stop here, 3.9 km from the Ōmiya terminus; Express and limited-express services pass through without stopping.

Notes

During World War II, a siding track branched north from near the station toward what is now Ōsato Higashi Elementary School, serving as an evacuation site that sheltered locomotives of the Japanese National Railways' Ōmiya depot from anticipated American air raids on that depot.
