History
Ouchi Station is a JR Shikoku Yodo Line station at Kofujita, Mima-chō, Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture; its station number is G42. It opened as an Uwajima Railway station on 18 October 1914 with the reading "Ōchi." When the railway was nationalized on 1 August 1933, the reading was changed at the same time to "Ōuchi." Freight handling ended in 1970 and parcel handling in 1971, leaving it unstaffed and a simplified-commission station; it was inherited by JR Shikoku at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987. It is currently a ground-level station with one side platform and one track, with no station building, and has a waiting room of the same design as those at Muden and Futana Stations.
Notes
Simultaneously with the 1933 nationalization, the reading of the station name was changed from "Ōchi" to "Ōuchi" — an unusual renaming in which only the pronunciation changed while the kanji remained the same.
