History
Osamunai Station opened on 16 July 1898 as a general station of the Hokkaido Government Railway. It passed to the Government Railway (a state-owned railway) in 1905 and then to Japanese National Railways in 1949. On 1 October 1969 the track between this station and Inō Station was realigned, and Kamuikotan Station was abolished as a result. The station became an express stop in the October 1981 timetable revision; freight handling ended in 1982, parcel handling ended in February 1984, and the station became unstaffed in November of that year. JR Hokkaido took over the station at the 1 April 1987 privatization and division of Japanese National Railways. On 1 November 1998, the city of Fukagawa built the "Yūai" Osamunai Clock Tower Plaza on the site of the former station building, which now serves as a waiting room; and on 16 March 2024 the "Kitaca" IC card became usable there.
Notes
Osamunai Station was planned as the junction station for the proposed Ashibetsu Line; the roadbed was completed on the Ashibetsu side, but on the Osamunai side work stopped after surveying and partial land acquisition, leaving the line unbuilt.
