History

Oriwatari Station was established on 28 September 1957 as the Japanese National Railways' Oriwatari signal station in Iwaki, Yuri District. When the section between Ugo-Iwaya and Oriwatari was double-tracked on 19 September 1972, the signal station became unstaffed, but boarding and alighting continued to be handled on condition that local residents kept watch. It was upgraded to a station simultaneously with the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987, becoming a station on the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) Uetsu Main Line. It is a ground-level station with two facing platforms serving two tracks, located at Izumida, Iwaki-Kamikurokawa, Yurihonjō City, Akita Prefecture; it has no footbridge, and the up platform is reached by a level crossing within the station premises. Very few trains stop, and most local trains pass through without stopping.

Notes

On the Uetsu Main Line it is, along with Mega and Katsurane Stations, one of the stations upgraded from a signal station simultaneously with the privatisation of the national railway.
