History

Oritate Station was established as the terminus on 5 November 1922, when the Kurobe Railway opened the 10.1 km section between Mikkaichi Station (today's Ainokaze Toyama Railway Kurobe Station) and Oritate Station. The following year, on 21 November 1923, the 7.1 km section between Oritate Station and Momohara Station (today's Unazuki-Onsen Station) opened, completing the full 17.2 km line from Mikkaichi Station to Momohara Station. The company consolidation of railways within Toyama Prefecture on 1 January 1943 assigned the station to Toyama Chihō Railway's Kurobe Line, and the voltage-increase work from 600 V to 1,500 V was completed on 11 November of the same year, beginning through service from Dentetsu-Toyama Station. Service was suspended during the war, on 18 May 1944, and resumed on 30 August 1951.

Notes

An Ebisu-kō has long been observed in the Oritate district: on the evening of 20 November, residents would carry paper lanterns from their houses to Oritate Station to welcome the god Ebisu, who in the local conceit comes home by train after making a great deal of money.
