History
Orimoto Station opened as a station on the government railway (national railway) Mōka Line on 1 April 1912. On 5 September 1958, simultaneously with becoming a business-consignment station, its passing facilities were removed, reducing it to a single through track; freight and parcel handling were discontinued on 10 January 1963, and the station became unstaffed on 10 March 1970. It became a JR East station with the 1987 division and privatization of the national railway on 1 April, and the following year, on 11 April 1988, the Mōka Line was converted to Mōka Railway, becoming a station of that company. In 2001 the passing facilities were brought back into service, and the station now has two facing platforms serving two tracks, where "SL Mōka" and regular trains also pass one another.
Notes
The passing facilities were removed in 1958, making it a single-track through station, but roughly 40 years later, in 2001, passing facilities were installed again, restoring it to a station where trains, including "SL Mōka," pass one another — an unusual course of history.
