History
Orikabe Station opened on 2 September 1928 at Orikabe, Murone-chō, Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture. From 2 September 1928 until 30 July 1929 it was the terminus of the line. Freight handling ended on 1 January 1972 and parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984, and on 1 November 1986 the station became unstaffed. It became a JR East station at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987, and became fully unstaffed on 1 December 1992. The station building was rebuilt in November 2007, and it is now operated as an unstaffed station managed by Kesennuma Station. Around December 2025 the passing loop was taken out of use, and the station shifted to operating with a single side platform serving one track.
Notes
Orikabe served as the eastern terminus of the line for under 11 months — from its opening on 2 September 1928 until 30 July 1929, after which the Ōfunato Line ran further east.
