History
Ōnuma-Kōen Station traces its origin to a temporary stop opened on 5 June 1907 by the Hokkaidō Railway, nationalised the following month and closed at year's end. It reopened as a seasonal Ministry of Communication halt in 1908, gained freight service in 1917, was renamed Ōnuma in 1920, and was promoted to a full station on 10 November 1924. Freight handling ceased on 20 May 1960. The current name was restored on 1 May 1964, a month before the neighbouring station took back the plain Ōnuma title. The wooden depot was rebuilt in March 1983, and on 1 April 1987 the JNR split transferred operation to JR Hokkaido.
Notes
Since 10 October 2015 the station has used the song Sen no Kaze ni Natte as the melody announcing the start of boarding for each departing train.
