History

Onizuka Station was established on 13 June 1899 with the opening of the Karatsu Kōgyō Railway's (later Karatsu Railway) Kyūragi–Yamamoto section. It was acquired by Kyushu Railway in 1902, becoming a station of that company, and was transferred to the Imperial Railway Agency with the 1907 nationalization of Kyushu Railway. Freight handling ended in 1961 and parcel handling in 1971, leaving it unstaffed; it became a JR Kyushu station at the 1987 JNR privatization. It is now a ground-level station with one island platform and two tracks where trains can pass each other; it has no station building, and access is by a track crossing within the station grounds on the Yamamoto side. Chikuhi Line trains running through from Yamamoto Station can also be used here.

Notes

The Matsuura River can be seen from the platform on the Nishi-Karatsu side, but no bridge near the station leads to Matsuura Riverside Park or the Karatsu Boat Race Stadium on the opposite bank.
