History
Onigase Station opened on 30 October 1915 at Onigase, Hasama-machi, Yufu City, Ōita Prefecture, with the opening of the Ōyu Railway's Ōitashi–Onoya section. It was temporarily abolished on 1 December 1922 when Ōyu Railway was nationalized, but reopened on 3 February 1925. Freight handling began on 25 July 1927 and ended on 1 October 1962; parcel handling also ended on 10 February 1971, leaving it unstaffed. It was inherited by Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987; it now has only one side platform and one track, with the station building removed, leaving only a canopied bench on the platform.
Notes
When the station was temporarily abolished with the 1922 nationalization, local parishioner representatives of Taishōgun Shrine lobbied the Railway Minister and led a campaign for its revival, which led to its reopening in 1925.
