History
Ōnaka Station opened on 5 July 1933 when the section of the Ministry of Railways' Etsumi-Nan Line between Gujō-Hachiman Station and Mino-Shirotori Station was completed, and began handling both passengers and freight. Freight handling was discontinued on 1 October 1974, and parcel handling was also discontinued on 1 December of the same year, leaving the station unstaffed. On 11 December 1986 the Etsumi-Nan Line was transferred to the third-sector Nagaragawa Railway, which took over the station. It is a ground-level station with a single platform serving one track, accessed by a staircase located toward the up-line side of the platform's midpoint, with the station building situated below the staircase. It is an unstaffed station with no automatic ticket machines, and its station number is 32.
Notes
The station building stands sandwiched within a settlement between National Route 156 and the Nagara River; nearby, rather than any of the temples ranked among the "Tenka Jissetsu" (Ten Temples Under Heaven), one instead finds facilities serving local residents, such as Gujō Municipal Ōnaka Elementary School and Shirotori Bowling Center.
