Location

History

Omoromachi Station opened on 10 August 2003 as part of the inaugural Naha Airport–Shuri segment of the Okinawa Urban Monorail (Yui Rail). The station had been planned under the working name "Makabi Station" after a neighbouring district, but was renamed before opening. It serves the Omoromachi Shintoshin (New City Centre) area, which redeveloped land returned from a former US military base, and the elevated structure runs directly above Japan National Route 330 alongside Asato and Furujima stations.

Notes

In the plaza in front of the station stands a silk floss tree named the "Amano strain," grown from seeds that Tetsuo Amano, an agricultural technician of the Government of the Ryukyu Islands, brought back from the Okinawa settlement in Bolivia — said to be the first successful cultivation of the tree in Japan.
