History
Ōmiya-kōen Station opened on 17 November 1929, when the Hokusō Railway's Noda Line section between Kasukabe and a provisional Ōmiya station was opened. The operator was renamed Sōbu Railway five days later, and Tōbu Railway absorbed the line on 1 March 1944. The station is a ground-level stop with two side platforms serving two tracks, the platforms linked by a footbridge. Departure melodies were introduced on 1 April 2008, and station operation was contracted to Tōbu Station Service on 1 December 2009. A new station building, designed by Sakakura Associates, was built west of the existing structure between June 2015 and 23 April 2016, after which the original 1929 building was demolished.
Notes
The surrounding area, including the namesake park, is designated a scenic protection district where tree-cutting and new construction are restricted by Saitama City ordinance.
