History
Ōmama Station opened as Ōmama-machi Station of the Ashio Railway in Midori, Gunma Prefecture, on 15 April 1911. At the time, Ryōmō Railway's Ōmama Station already existed to the south, in Asami Village; after that station was renamed Iwajuku Station, this station was renamed to its present name, Ōmama Station, on 1 December 1912. It was nationalized on 1 June 1918 and became a station on the Ashio Line; following the 1987 division and privatization of the national railway on 1 April, it was transferred on 29 March 1989 to the third-sector Watarase Keikoku Railway. On 2 November 2009, the main station building and platform were registered as Tangible Cultural Properties, and in 2016 the station was also selected as a Civil Engineering Heritage site by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
Notes
The main station building and platform became Registered Tangible Cultural Properties in 2009, and railcars Wa89-100 series No. 101 and Wa89-300 series No. 302 are preserved coupled together in the parking lot in front of the station.
