History
Ōmachi Station is a street-level tram stop in the Ōmachi district of Toyama, Toyama Prefecture, on the Toyama Chihō Railway's Toyama Kidō Main Line, running on shared track along Prefectural Route 43. It opened on 9 January 1933 as Horikawa-Ōmachi under the Toyama Municipal Tramway and passed to Toyama Chihō Railway on 1 January 1943. Wartime bombing in the Toyama air raid closed it from 2 August 1945 until service resumed on 14 January 1946. It was renamed Minami-Koizumi by 1952 and again to its present name, Ōmachi, by 1962. The stop, with two opposing platforms, sits between Minami-Toyama Ekimae and Horikawa-Koizumi Station, near two prefectural high schools, a municipal elementary and junior high school, and a community hall.
Notes
The stop carried two different names within about three decades of opening—Horikawa-Ōmachi, then Minami-Koizumi—before settling on its present name, Ōmachi, by 1962.
