History
Ōkuwa Station opened on 2 January 1917 as a station of Shimotsuke Kidō. Shimotsuke Kidō was renamed Shimotsuke Denki Tetsudō (Shimotsuke Electric Railway) on 6 June 1921, and Tōbu Railway bought the company on 1 May 1943, making the station a Tōbu station. The station was destaffed (placed under simple commission) on 1 September 1973. Limited-express "Revaty Kinu" and "Revaty Aizu" stops were added on 21 April 2017 but withdrawn on 12 March 2022. The simple-commission arrangement was ended at an unspecified date in 2024.
Notes
On 27 October 2017 the station's platform was added to the national register of Tangible Cultural Properties (structures) as "Tōbu Railway Ōkuwa Station Platform", for its distinctive embankment construction of cobbled stone-faced fill, valued as a structure that conveys the Kinugawa Line's modernisation to the present day.
