Location

History

Ōkubo Station opened on 5 May 1895 as a stop on the Kōbu Railway, handling both passenger and freight traffic, and came under state ownership on 1 October 1906 when that railway was nationalized. Its elevated viaduct was completed in March 1931, and freight handling ended that September. When Japanese National Railways was split up and privatized on 1 April 1987, the station passed to JR East, and Suica IC cards became usable there from 18 November 2001. Today the elevated station has one island platform serving two tracks, plus through tracks used by non-stopping Chūō Line Rapid services; only Chūō-Sōbu Line local trains call, serving Shinjuku's Hyakuninchō district and the neighboring Ōkubo Korean neighborhood.

Notes

The climactic shootout scene of the Jackie Chan film Shinjuku Incident was filmed on location at the station's south exit concourse.
