History
Ōja Station opened on 10 December 1956 as a station of Japanese National Railways' Hachinohe Line in Hashikami Town, Sannohe District, Aomori Prefecture. From opening it has been an unstaffed station handling only diesel-railcar passenger traffic. It became a station of East Japan Railway Company (JR East) at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. When Hon-Hachinohe Station moved to contracted staffing on 1 December 2015 and its stationmaster and assistant stationmaster posts were abolished, the stations of the Hachinohe Line including this one came under the management of the Hachinohe stationmaster. JR East's ticketless service "eki-net Q-ticket" began handling there on 1 October 2024. It is an at-grade station with a single side platform serving one track, and continues to operate unstaffed.
