History
Oikeyuen Station opened on 18 August 1933 when the Wakayama Railway extended its line from Itakiso to Kishi Station. Operation passed to the Wakayama Electric Tramway in 1957, to Nankai Electric Railway in 1961, and to Wakayama Electric Railway on 1 April 2006. The wooden station building was removed in 1998, and on 7 May 1999 the station's reading was changed from 'Ōike Yūen' to 'Oike Yūen' to match local usage. It is an unstaffed, ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, located in Nagayama, Kishigawa-chō, Kinokawa, Wakayama Prefecture; the adjacent Ōike pond is known as a cherry-blossom viewing spot where about 1,000 trees bloom each spring.
Notes
At Ōike pond, from which the station takes its name, about 1,000 cherry trees bloom each spring, and the pond becomes lively with pleasure-boat operation and crowds of blossom viewers.
