Location

History

Oikawa Station opened on 1 November 1934 as a station of the Ministry of Railways. It was a petitioned station established to accompany the bus countermeasure and short-distance operation of railcars introduced to the Aizu region, and was opened at local expense. It is located at Matsukawa-kō, Yugawa Village, Kawanuma District, Fukushima Prefecture, and is now a station on JR East's Ban'etsu West Line. It retains its original operating pattern: long-distance trains pass through, and only trains on short-distance runs stop. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, with only a small prefab-hut-like station building (waiting room), and is an unstaffed station managed by the Aizu General Center (Aizuwakamatsu Station). It became a JR East station at the National Railways' privatization and division on 1 April 1987.

Notes

The station name derives from Oikawa Village, its location at the time of opening; Oikawa Village merged with Shojo Village in 1957 to form Yugawa Village.
