History
Ōichi Station opened on 23 December 1931 with the Ministry of Railways' extension of the then Kishin Line (written 姫津線) between Yobe and Higashi-Hashisaki, in what is now Himeji, Hyōgo Prefecture. When the Kishin West Line opened in 1934 the line was renamed the Kishin East Line, and it was reunified as the Kishin Line in April 1936 on the completion of the Himeji–Higashi-Tsuyama route; on 10 October 1936 it became part of the present-day Kishin Line (姫新線). Freight handling ended on 1 October 1961, parcel service on 1 March 1971, and the station was de-staffed on 1 November 1986. It passed to West Japan Railway Company (JR West) at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. ICOCA service began on 26 March 2016 with simple-type IC card readers, and a new station building entered service on 21 March 2021.
Notes
When the new station building entered service in March 2021 it replaced the previous one; in October 2021 the company Kansai Rikuun completed its head-office building on the site of the old station building, and although the building handles no ticketing or gate business it is open to Ōichi Station users, with toilets, a rest area and a café.
