History

Ōhato opened on 16 November 1915 on the same day the Nagasaki Electric Tramway started service, and its position and name have never changed — the only stop dating from the opening of the tramway's lines of which that is true. Pre-war crews informally called it Ōhato-Kenchō-mae because it was the nearest stop to the Nagasaki Prefectural Office (which moved away in 2018). The platforms stand in the roadway near the wharves of Nagasaki Port, and during the Shōrō Nagashi spirit-boat procession the Nagasaki-ekimae-bound platform, which lies on the route of the spirit boats, is closed for safety while a temporary platform is set up on the south side of the intersection. It is stop number 29 on the Main Line.
