History
Ogyū Station opened as a station of the Kurobe Railway on 5 November 1922. On 1 January 1943, when railway companies within Toyama Prefecture were consolidated, it became part of the Kurobe Line of Toyama Chihō Railway (Chitetsu); on 11 November of the same year, the former Kurobe Railway line's voltage was raised from 600 V to 1,500 V and through service from Dentetsu-Toyama Station began. Freight operations ended on 1 August 1969. For many years the wooden station building dating from the station's opening remained in use, but after ridership was expected to increase with the opening of the city-run Meihō Junior High School on the site of the former Sakurai Junior High School next door, Kurobe City built a new station building on the opposite side of the tracks. At a total project cost of about 160 million yen, the new station building came into use on 25 December 2019.
Notes
The new station building completed in December 2019 was funded by Kurobe City at a cost of roughly 160 million yen, primarily to keep students of the newly merged Meihō Junior High School from having to cross the tracks during their commute.
