History

Oginojō Station is an unstaffed halt on the Echigo Line in the town of Izumozaki, Niigata Prefecture, operated by JR East. It opened on 25 June 1958 as a passenger-only, unstaffed station of Japanese National Railways, established in response to a petition from local residents. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East. The site has no station building, only a waiting shelter, and a single ground-level platform serving one track. The station takes its name from Oginojō, a nearby castle ruin roughly four kilometres distant; a monument marking the station's completion stands beside the station.

Notes

A completion monument beside the station carries calligraphy by Tanaka Kakuei, who was Minister of Posts and Telecommunications at the time.
