History

Ōdōtsu Station opened on 1 March 1936 as the terminus of the Ministry of Railways' Shibushi Line (now the Nichinan Line) when the line was extended from Yowara Station to this station. It became an intermediate station when the Shibushi Line was extended to Aburatsu Station on 19 April the following year, 1937. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1960, and baggage handling also ended on 1 February 1984. It became a Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) station at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and a new station building came into use on 20 March 2019. It was transferred to the jurisdiction of the newly established Miyazaki Branch on 1 April 2022. It is a ground-level station able to let trains pass each other, with two opposed platforms serving two tracks connected by an on-premises level crossing; it is unstaffed.

Notes

The old station building was demolished in 2019 and replaced with a simply built new station building that also serves as a waiting room.
