Location

History

Odoriba Station opened on 29 August 1999. It was selected as one of the "100 Best Stations in the Kantō Region" in 2000. Platform-edge doors entered service in August 2007 and docomo Wi-Fi was added on 11 May 2012, with au Wi-Fi SPOT and SoftBank Wi-Fi following over the next year. With the 18 July 2015 timetable change the station became a Rapid (Kaisoku) stop and gained two new daytime services per hour terminating or originating at Odoriba. On 29 August 2019 a terminating train overran into the storage siding and struck the buffer wall. From 22 February 2021—Cat Day—the ticket-machine paper stock at the station was switched to a special "dancing cat" design.

Notes

The station name comes from a legend long handed down locally, "the cats' dance floor of Totsuka-juku" — the place is said to be where three cats that had eaten silver-vine (matatabi) were seen dancing — and the station is decorated throughout with feline motifs. Cat paw-prints run along the floor from the ticket gate towards exit 4, the passageway carries large tiles shaped like cat eyes, and dancing-cat decorations appear on the stairway-landing ceiling and on the canopies over the entrances. Exits 1 and 3 have skylights shaped like cat ears, and the curve of exit 1's exterior wall is shaped to evoke a cat's body. Odoriba is also the highest point on the entire Blue Line by elevation.
