History

Nyūno Station, on JR West's Sanyō Main Line, was newly established at its present site on 25 December 1953 as a Japanese National Railways passenger and baggage-handling station. Its predecessor was the Nyūno signal box, set up by the Railway Bureau (Tetsudōin) on 13 July 1917 about 200 m toward Okayama from the current station; the signal box was abolished on 11 August 1939. A footbridge over the tracks was completed in 1975, and baggage handling was discontinued in 1984. The station passed to JR West at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. It became unstaffed on 1 December 1994, and ICOCA became usable there from 1 September 2007. It is the least-used station on the Sanyō Main Line within Hiroshima Prefecture, and station number JR-G13 was introduced in September 2020.
