History

Nodaoi Station is a general-service station that opened on 3 November 1903, as Hokkaido Railway's Mori–Neppu section was completed, under the name Nodaoi Station (then written with different characters); a locomotive depot, also called Nodaoi, was established at the same time. It was transferred to the state railway upon the nationalization of Hokkaido Railway on 1 July 1907, and became a station on the Hakodate Main Line under the line-name designation of 12 October 1909. From 1945 onward, the Hakodate Main Line was progressively double-tracked between Ishikura Station and this station, and between this station and Yamakoshi Station. On 1 October 1959, in line with a revision of the local place-name, the station's name was rewritten with different characters while keeping the same reading, Nodaoi. Freight handling ended in 1972 and parcel handling in 1984; the station became unstaffed on 1 November 1986 and fully unstaffed on 1 April 1992. The station building was rebuilt on 3 December 1988.

Notes

The 1959 rename kept the pronunciation "Nodaoi" but changed the kanji from 野田追 to 野田生 to match the post-1956 village-name reform that distinguished the left bank of the Nodaoi River from the right.
