History

Nishiyama-Kōen Station opened on 13 August 1929 as Shimo-Sabae Station on what is now the Fukui Railway Fukubu Line, in present-day Sabae, Fukui Prefecture. The station was renamed Nishiyama-Kōen Station on 10 April 1987; Nishiyama Park, together with the Nishiyama Zoo, lies a short walk west of the station. The single ground-level side platform serves one bi-directional track, and the station is normally unstaffed. During special events such as Suribachiyaito and the Azalea Festival held over Golden Week, however, the station is staffed at midday and some express services bound for Fukui-Ekimae make stops here.
