History
Nishitetsu Wataze Station opened on 1 October 1938 as Wataze Station on the Kyushu Railway company's Tenjin Ōmuta Line. The name was changed to Kyūtetsu Wataze on 1 July 1939. After the operator merged with the Kyushu Electric Tramway on 19 September 1942 and was renamed Nishi-Nippon Railway three days later, the station took its current name on 22 September 1942. The station building was rebuilt in 1966. Station numbering (T45) was introduced on 1 February 2017, and following the rollout of a centralised station management system the station was fully unstaffed on 1 April 2021.
Notes
Among Nishitetsu stations at which limited express and express trains do not stop, Nishitetsu Wataze is the only one with a two-island, four-track layout; during the morning rush, limited express and express trains overtake local services here.
