Location

History

Nishitanabe Station opened on 5 October 1952 with the extension of the Osaka Municipal Subway's Line 1 (now the Midosuji Line) between Showacho and Nishitanabe. It was a terminus when it opened, but became a through station when Line 1 was extended from this station to Abiko on 1 July 1960. With the privatisation of the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau on 1 April 2018, it became a station of Osaka Metro (officially Osaka City Rapid Electric Tramway Co., Ltd.). Platform screen doors entered service on 29 May 2021, and walk-through facial-recognition ticket gates were installed on 25 March 2025. It is an underground station with two opposed platforms serving two tracks; south of the station, a track branches off to a track-maintenance base converted from a former rail yard.

Notes

Ridership fell sharply from 2016 onward as a result of Sharp Corporation relocating its head office to Sakai, and the station now has the lowest ridership of any Midōsuji Line station within the city of Osaka.
