History
Nishi Takakura Station opened on 30 March 1974 as a station on what was then designated Line 4 of the Nagoya Municipal Subway, in Atsuta-ku, Nagoya. The station sits beneath the Nishi-Takakura intersection on Fushimi-dōri (National Route 19), beside the western approach to Takakura-Musubimiko Shrine, the source of its name. Following the opening of the nearby Nagoya Congress Center in 1994, escalators were installed and the entrance designs were renewed. Line 4 was renamed the Meijō Line on 6 October 2004, and accessibility upgrades were completed in 2010. Platform-edge doors were activated on 15 March 2021.
Notes
The station name is derived from the western approach to Takakura-Musubimiko Shrine, which stands next to the Nishi-Takakura intersection above the platforms.
