History

Nishi-Shimmachi Station opened on 19 August 1923 on what is now the Sanyo Electric Railway Main Line. The station serves the city of Akashi in Hyōgo Prefecture and lies 16.9 kilometres from the line terminus at Nishidai. Its present configuration consists of two elevated side platforms with the station building tucked beneath them; the station is unstaffed. It is operated by the privately held Sanyo Electric Railway and serves a residential area near Hayashizaki Fishing Port and the former site of Funage Castle.
