History

Nishi-Nijūhatchōme Station opened on 10 June 1976 as part of the inaugural Tōzai Line section of the Sapporo Municipal Subway, between Kotoni and Shiroishi. Its provisional name during construction was 'Kita Go-jō'. Platform-edge sliding doors entered service on 30 January 2009. The station sits beside the western yard used by Tōhō Line rolling stock, and during peak-hour periods Tōhō Line empty-stock movements can be observed running between this station and Nishi-Jūitchōme. The Nishi-28-chōme bus terminal adjacent to the station opened on 1 May 1981.

Notes

The station stamp incorporates the letter 'N' (for Nishi) with an illustration of the Sapporo Sculpture Museum tucked inside it.
