History
Nishi-Kawagoe Station opened on 22 July 1940 at Ōaza Ogaya in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture. It became a contracted-operation station under Nihon Kōtsū Kankōsha on 1 June 1965, and when parcel handling ended on 1 October 1970 the station became unstaffed. With the JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR East. The station building was rebuilt in March 1999, and around the same time operations were contracted to JR East Station Services. Suica IC service became available on 18 November 2001, and the automated announcement system was renewed on 2 December 2017. Staff are not present in the early morning (before 07:00) or at night, when the station building is closed and passengers boarding then must take a boarding-station certificate.
Notes
Nishi-Kawagoe is the least-used station on the Kawagoe Line according to JR East's most recent fiscal-year tally.
