History
Nishi-kasai Station opened on 1 October 1979 on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line in Edogawa Ward, about two years after construction had begun in November 1977. No station was provided when the Tozai Line was first extended through the area in 1969, but preparatory structures on the viaduct and land for a station were secured at the time; the station was eventually built because the Kasai-oki reclamation and the Seishin/Rinkai housing development were expected to bring population growth. The elevated station ended up serving roughly three times its forecast ridership; a major rebuild between 1999 and 2000 widened the platform from a maximum of 6.25 m to 8.5 m and added underground bicycle parking. The Teito Rapid Transit Authority's facilities passed to Tokyo Metro upon privatisation on 1 April 2004. Platform-edge doors entered service on 16 April 2022.
Notes
Nishi-kasai to the next station Minami-sunamachi is 2.7 km, the longest inter-station distance anywhere on Tokyo Metro's network.
