History

Nishi-Aoyama Station opened on 20 December 1930 with the Sangu Express Electric Railway's opening of the section between Ao (now Aoyamacho) and Sada (now Sakakibara-Onsenguchi). It became a station of the Kansai Express Railway through merger with the Osaka Electric Tramway on 15 March 1941, and a station of Kintetsu (Kinki Nippon Railway) through further merger on 1 June 1944. On 23 November 1975, with the switch to a new line routed through the New Aoyama Tunnel, the station was relocated about 1.1 kilometres to the west, which completed the double-tracking of the entire Osaka Line. It became unstaffed in 1997, and PiTaPa became usable from 1 April 2007.
