History

Nijō Station opened on 1 July 1927 on the Osaka Electric Tramway Yagi Line, the present Kintetsu Osaka Line, when the section between Onji and Takada (now Yamato-Takada) was inaugurated. Following the 15 March 1941 merger of the Osaka Electric Tramway with the Sangu Express Electric Railway the line passed to the Kansai Express Railway, and a further company merger on 1 June 1944 brought it under the Kintetsu Railway. The station has two opposed side platforms above ground with the ticket gates and concourse underground; the effective platform length accommodates six cars and the station is unstaffed.
