History

Niimura Station is a stop on the Kamikōchi Line, operated by Alpico Kōtsū, in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, and is station number AK-08, about 6.2 kilometers from the line's terminus at Matsumoto Station. It opened on 2 October 1921 as a station of the Chikuma Railway; the operator was later renamed Chikuma Electric Railway in 1922, Matsumoto Electric Railway in 1932, and Alpico Kōtsū in 2011. A new station building opened in March 2012, replacing the original, which was demolished in 2017. Niimura has a single island platform serving two tracks, reached from the station building by a level crossing, and adjoins the line's rolling-stock depot, which opens to the public each spring for a railway festival.

Notes

The depot beside the station once preserved "Hanifu 1," an early electric railcar from Japan's state railway system, before donating it to the Railway Museum in Saitama in 2007.
