Location
History
Neppu Station opened on 3 November 1903 as a general station named Neppu Station on the Hokkaido Railway line, with the opening of the section between Mori Station and this station. On 15 October 1904, with the extension to Kozawa Station, it was renamed Utasutsu Station, and on 15 December 1905 it was changed back to Neppu Station. Following nationalization on 1 July 1907 and the establishment of line names on 12 October 1909, it became a station on the Hakodate Main Line. Freight handling ended in 1975 and parcel handling in 1984; the station switched to simplified consignment and became unstaffed on 1 November 1986; JR Hokkaido took it over at the 1 April 1987 privatization and division of Japanese National Railways. The station building was rebuilt on 15 December 1990, the station became fully unstaffed on 1 April 1992, and station number S29 was introduced on 1 October 2007.
Notes
Neppu's station building, rebuilt in 1990 and named Neppu Hall, doubles as a community lounge and has a timber-boarded interior, with its foundation set high to cope with deep snow.
